Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

‘Empowering students for learning and life’

Year 12

On Monday 21st of October, we held a special Whole School Assembly celebrating the various events and achievements across the College, over the course of the year.  Unfortunately, I could not be at this assembly however Mr Rogers represented me, using this opportunity to share his experience on the Young Leaders to India trip which he attended with four of our Year 9 students.

It was a memorable trip with more photos shared later in this newsletter.  Our 2019 College Captains shared with our student body their experiences this year as Captains and introduced our 2020 College Captains.  It was a very successful and engaging assembly and all of our Student Leaders spoke proudly and with confidence about their experiences throughout the year.  I would like to thank Ms. Lauren Shaw for her organisation of all our assemblies.

As outlined in our last newsletter, six Year 11 students nominated for school captaincy for 2020, and I would like to once again congratulate our 2020 College captains:

  • Jade Minton
  • Nyachristmas Kuach
  • Daejanae Talo
  • Jarold Tagaloa-Leniu

The other nominees presented extremely well and have been offered other leadership positions within our College.

This assembly was the final one for our Year 12 students and we had a special luncheon for our students on Thursday 24th October, where they celebrated with their teachers and leaders.  The Captains led the speeches and handed out awards to their teachers.  It was a lovely way to farewell our Year 12 students.

Our Year 12 students have finished their school year on Friday 25th October and celebrated by going to LeMans Laser Skirmish with their Sub School Leadership team and a couple of their Year 12 teachers.

Our Year 12 VCE students are working through their VCAA exams, with some students finished and most completing their last exams over the next week. The exams have gone extremely well and our students demonstrated high expectations of themselves in their conduct and application during the exams. The external examiners have commented on how wonderful and diligent students have been throughout the exams that were administered to date. We feel confident that this will continue until the last exam is completed. We again wish all our students the very best of luck in their studies and look forward to celebrating with them again at the Valedictory Dinner held on Friday 22nd of November.

As we head into the final few months of  the 2019 school year, our Year 10 & 11 students are finalising assessments and preparing for their exams.  Our Middle School students are still completing their course work, and will also be finalising assessments.  We wish all our students the very best over this very busy time and remind them to seek support when needed from their teachers or the Wellbeing team

VCAL

This term the Year 12 VCAL students have been finishing off their outcomes to complete their Senior VCAL Certificate. To finish off their year, students went out for lunch in the city and then went to the Willy Wonka production at the Regent Theatre. It was a great opportunity and experience for our VCAL students.

Year 11 VCAL students have been finishing off their Community activities.  As part of this work they have received many donations from members of our College community and we would like to thank everyone who donated various items over the past few weeks. The students have worked tirelessly putting together several dozen toiletry packs, which they will donate to the Salvation Army.  This is an amazing effort by our students and we are very proud of the work they have done giving back to our community. The Year 11 VCAL students have celebrated their year by a day at Gumbuya World.

A special thanks to all the teachers of VCAL, but in particular Mrs Sue Carroll who has led the work done with our VCAL students, creating an engaging and practical course that our students have embraced.

Performing Arts

Our Performing Arts Academy students have been very busy this term led by their teacher Ms Claire De Niese.  They performed at Cranbourne Home on 18th October, by invitation from the Management Team to help

welcome a tour group to the centre.  They will be following this up in December by performing a Christmas dance to entertain the shoppers at the Cranbourne Home Centre.

They will be performing their Christmas dance at Lynbrook Village Christmas market on Thursday 28th November to showcase their wonderful talents.  Our students will also be performing a showcase of dances for the Grade 5 students from Courtney Gardens when they visit our College on the 13th of November.

Further to this, we had a several Lyndhurst students perform at the Cultural Connections Day at Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School to celebrate Diwali. Our students were involved in a Bollywood performance as well as teaching a Bollywood dance to Year 3 students.  They also did Henna tattooing for Year 2 and 3 students and taught them Rangoli which is an Indian form of Folk Art, made with coloured sand on floor.

We are very proud of our talented students and would like to thank both Ms Claire De Niese who works tirelessly behind the scenes to support our students in showcasing their talents and Mrs Aruna Malhorta who worked with our students to participate in the Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School Diwali celebrations.

Year 8 Camp

A number of our Year 8 students will be heading off to the Summit Camp on Wednesday 20th November through to 22nd November.  This is an exciting opportunity for our students, where they will be participating in a range of activities including Cave Challenge, High Ropes Course, Laser Skirmish, Flying Fox, Abseiling, Giant Swing to name just a few.  We wish them a wonderful and safe experience.
