Noel Jones Partnership

I am thrilled to announce that in 2020, Croydon Hills Primary School is partnering with local real estate agency, Noel Jones in McAdam Square.  The partnership will deliver several innovative benefits to our school, with a monetary donation to Staff Professional Learning and the donation of three iPads, which will be major prizes in school raffles throughout the year.  I am keen to encourage strong school/community partnerships and warmly welcome Noel Jones into the CHPS partnership stable.

Call for School Council Nominations

Each year Victorian Government schools are required to formally call for nominations for members of the School Council. Croydon Hills Primary School’s School Council consists of eight elected parents, fours staff positions, the Department Nominee (the Principal) and the option of 2 Co-opted Positions.

Elected members stand for two year terms with the option of then nominating for further terms.

This year we have:

  • six vacancies in the Parent Member Category
  • two vacancies in the DET Employee Category

The two co-opted members will be determined at the School Council AGM on Wednesday 18th March. In the past these positions have been filled by a representative from the parent community, Croydon Hills Parents Association (CHAPS) or Men of the Hills (MOTHS).

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must be lodged by 4.00 pm on Thursday 20 February 2020. If the number of nominations exceeds the number of positions a ballot will be conducted, closing on Thursday 5 March. If the number of nominations is less than the number of vacancies, a notice to that effect will be distributed calling for further nominations.

School Uniform

The wearing of school uniform promotes a sense of community spirit and pride in the school.  The wearing of school uniform is compulsory at Croydon Hills Primary School in accordance with DET regulations.

Croydon Hills uniform consists of navy shorts/skorts, pants or track pants, polo shirts with a collar, navy windcheater/bomber jacket and approved hats. The summer uniform includes a school dress or navy shorts/skorts with red polo top; the winter uniform includes a plaid pinafore or navy track pants and polo tops. Leggings are not to be worn   Year 6 children have a special Hoodie and polo navy top, which they may wear; we do not allow younger siblings to wear these year 6 clothes from previous years.  Please note, that cargo pants/shorts or basketball shorts (nylon) are not considered to be part of our uniform.

The only acceptable jewellery is watches, stud earrings and sleepers in the ears.

Students should have their natural hair colour. If headbands are worn they should be red, navy or white.

If for some reason your child is sent to school out of uniform for the day, please send a note to the class teacher.  This excludes birthdays, when students can wear 'civvie' clothing to mark their special day.

We appreciate your support of our Uniform Policy and the promotion of community pride in our school.

Please see our School Uniform Policy which includes our Dress Code which is included with the newsletter.

Croydon Hills Parents Association (CHAPS) AGM

On Monday 17 February at 7:30pm CHAPS will be holding their Annual General Meeting.

CHAPS are our highly successful parent group that are invaluable to our community.  On the surface they are recognised as a fundraising group, however they service the community in many other beneficial ways. Most notably CHAPS host some of our most engaging and successful family events, including Family Roller Skating, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Stalls, the Student Disco and the highlight of my year, the Colour Run!

The committee has a pre-established and well-coordinated group dedicated to fundraising and is after committee members who are interested in:

  • Facilitating meetings in the role of President and Vice President (not doing everything!)
  • Filling executive positions including Treasurer and Secretary
  • Strengthening the Fundraising Team
  • Taking the lead or working with others in one or more of the CHAPS events:
    • Mother's Day Stall
    • Family Roller Skating
    • Children's DiscO
    • Father's Day Stall
    • Colour Run
  • For those who are new to the school, perhaps a little burnt out from pre-school committees, it’s very different!  Join in for lots of fun, laughs and lifelong friendships. I highly encourage parents, new or existing, to join this dynamic group.  Better yet, join with one of your parent friends!
  • Men of the Hills (MOTHS)
  • Today The Fathering Project visited our school to shoot a promotional video about the great work MOTHS do with our school community.  Croydon Hills PS and MOTHS are regarded as a lighthouse school by The Fathering Project, with our model of engaging fathers and male role models within the school set to be shared across the country.

The school community completes a comprehensive self-evaluation against the FISO continua of practice, which involves students, teachers and community members.

Prep Family Welcome BBQ

Last Thursday the Prep staff and the Principal Team put on a BBQ for the 2020 Prep families. The evening was a great celebration of the first weeks of school and provided families with an opportunity to see the classrooms and connect with other families.
