Principal's Report

Every Student Matters

2020 started with an air of excitement, energy and commitment to improvement. Staff and students are refreshed, and the atmosphere is positive.  A special welcome to students and families who are new to the school. You chose well!

Every opportunity taken

On Monday, I welcomed our students back to the year and shared the stories and successes of just some of our 2019 Year 12 students, a number of whom left home this week to start University.  I’m so proud of our graduating 2019 Year 12’s – with students receiving offers from their first or second choice of university and other students finding their ideal job or TAFE course.  See the newsletter for just some of our students' stories.

Our focus this year is to continue to improve the learning growth of our students.  See the newsletter for details of our student progress in 2019.  We are continuing our reading programme Illuminate and increasing our focus on student writing.   We know that when students improve their skills in reading and writing, their post-school opportunities increase.

Our aim is to provide all students with opportunities to learn and develop, not just academically.  Our students have finalised auditions for the school production this year – and I look forward to hearing the announcement of the cast.  Swimming sports next week offers another opportunity for our students to shine.

Building a better school

I’m excited to share news about our new school buildings.  We’re going to have a busy year from term one as we undergo a building programme and a refurbishment to create a year 7/8 learning hub!  As this newsletter goes to print, I am finalising the tender process to create the new learning hub and hope that we finish the project before the end of Term 2.

Works for our new building will commence in March.  The new building will include a new staff and student reception, administration offices & meeting room, VCE Centre, Home Eco room and canteen.  I expect the new building will be ready for us to move into in term 3.

This is an exciting new phase for our school and we will keep our school updated with progress on both projects.
