District Cross Country Report - 2023

Dear Parents

Wednesday last week the OLHC Cross Country Team headed off to Eltham Lower Park to compete in the Eltham District Inter School Sport Cross Country Championships. These children had been selected from the results of the Our Lady’s House Cross Country Carnival that we held back on Friday 31st of March.

The students turning 9 or 10 this year compete in the 2km 10-year-old section while those who turn 11 or 12 during the year compete in the 3km 11-year-old race or the 12-year-old race. Despite bad weather early in the week, the day turned out quite reasonable and the students managed to mostly run in sunshine. 

This event is a stepping stone toward the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships so students who finished in the top ten qualified to go on to the SSV Nillumbik Division Championships on Thursday 1st June. We had one student qualify for this event. So special congratulations to Noah Webb, 8th in the 10 Boy’s on making it through.

Congratulations need to go to the whole team on coming along and giving it a go. Just saying yes to doing a 2 or 3km run is a fantastic show of school spirit! Our team finished 7th overall. We have three students who are emergencies for the division event so we keep our fingers crossed for Cara D’Arcangelo, Guilia Ferndes and Jo Natoli. 

A special thanks to the awesome team of helpers who came along and ran the score table, it is a much better job to have than standing out in a cold windy checkpoint but it does put them under pressure at the end of the event when everybody is waiting to hear which school won the overall shield which this year was Eltham East.

One last thanks to Mrs. Atherton for coming along and helping with the team and to the teachers who stayed back at school and worked with those not selected to compete.
