Year 3 News
From Ari, Year 3 teacher
Sorry Day
In acknowledgment of National Sorry Day on May 26th, the Year 3’s History lesson was focused around understanding what Sorry Day is, why it is a significant event and why the Australian Prime Minister said Sorry to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Exploring the Healing foundation, Year 3 read tales and stories from survivors of the stolen generation and used their inferring skills to develop empathy and understanding of what happened and the impacts that followed. The lesson concluded around the idea of ‘Reconciliation’ in Australia and its importance, as we developed our class Acknowledgements of Country.
Reconciliation Week
We explored Aboriginal artefact through the educational videos on the Koorie Heritage Trust website.
After listening to videos from Koorie people explaining certain artefacts, students then present their findings to the class as a presentation.
