Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be celebrated on Tuesday, 30th May at 7pm at St. Mary’s Church, involving seven students in our Sacramental program.

Friends of the students celebrating their First Reconciliation on Tuesday, 30th May are most welcome to attend the Sacrament of First Reconciliation celebration with their families to support these students.

The following students have been preparing for this sacrament of forgiveness in class and our prayers are with them as they celebrate this important step in their faith journey:

  • Olivia McCabe
  • Dakota McCabe
  • Will Ryan
  • Ollie De Maria
  • James Sibio
  • Theo Natalizio
  • Isabel Weis

The seven students will spend time together on Friday, 26th May as part of our Sacramental Reflection Day. We will attend Mass, reflect on the meaning of forgiveness and reconciliation in our lives and practise for the Sacrament of

 Reconciliation.

All classes have been focussing on Religious Education “Source of Life” units of work that relate to forgiveness as part of a whole school focus on this sacrament in preparation for this wonderful celebration.

News reminder!

“Along the Track” article.

In today’s newsletter, you will find another article written by Jim Quillinan entitled,  “Returning to Galilee.” These articles are included in our newsletter each fortnight to hopefully open up the Scripture for you and to help you “see” the message of Jesus in a modern light.

“During his Easter homily a couple of years ago, Pope Francis asked us all ‘to return to Galilee’, to return to where we first experienced the call to follow Jesus, to where God’s grace first touched us. That Galilee does not have to be a place; it could be an event, a situation, a frame of mind, or a choice made. It could be a challenging time, a time of sickness or pain. It could be a moment of joy, too – the birth of a child perhaps, or just a very happy event or set of circumstances. On the other hand it could be a time of disappointment, dashed hopes or dreams. Where is your Galilee?, Pope Francis asked.” Jim Quillinan, April, 2023.

New news!!

Our next whole school Mass will be celebrated on Friday, 16th June. We will celebrate the Mass of Compassion (Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) on this day. The Mass of Compassion is a significant celebration, where we put our social justice values into action and bring food items for those in need in our local community.

This year, the theme for our Mass of Compassion will be “Bring a can, because you can!”

Families will be asked to donate canned food items, such as tuna, salmon, vegetables, spaghetti, fruit and desserts (such as creamed rice) in the coming weeks.

The Grade Six Social Justice Team will co-ordinate this act of solidarity and assist in the donations being delivered to the St. Vincent de Paul Society here in Mooroopna.
