Principal's Message

Reconciliation Week

Launching Place PS recognises National Reconciliation Week (NRW) as a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

27 May 1967 On this day, Australia’s most successful referendum saw more than 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the Census.

3 June 1992  On this day, the Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, the culmination of Eddie Koiki Mabo’s challenge to the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.

LPPS is keen to contribute to ensuring our nation is strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Heat Incursion

Today our students had the opportunity to enjoy our Heat Kids Incursion. A program specifically designed to suit students from Prep through to Grade 6. The activities were extremely interactive with children planning and overcoming numerous fun firefighter themed challenges.

Thanks Heat Kids for providing such a fun program that also helped us to develop our fitness, problem solving and team works skills.

Big Writes

Spending time in our classrooms this week during the Big Write I was so grateful to see how many students came to school with facts prepared to write their Information Report.  How lucky our students are to have parents who participate and assist them in this manner.  At the conclusion of the big write I was super impressed with a great deal of the writing produced.  Go  Launch!

Our next School Council Meeting is coming up on Monday 19th June @ 7:00pm via Webex.  School councilors please remember to save the date.

Parents, student or community members are welcome to send any items for business or correspondence to council for their consideration by Thursday 15th June.

School community illness

We have certainly had a bit of sickness around the place lately and very few have been left unimpacted.  Thanks for your patience as we do our very best to cover classes during staff absences.

If your child is unwell it is certainly best to keep them home, however please also be mindful about students missing too many days of school.  I know that balance can be tricky.

Regular attendance is classed as less than 10 days of absences per child per year.   If you have any questions about attendance or how we can support your fam - get in touch!

Professional Practice Day

Our Professional Practice (Student-free) day is coming up on Friday 16th June.  Please make sure that you arrange alternative care for your child/children on that day.

See you around our place!
