Students enjoyed a visit to the Town Library / Art Gallery in recent weeks as a culmination of Book Week activities.
These were some responses from the students:
*We really liked looking in the special room, called the "back of house" at the back of the art gallery where they keep the textiles, some really big landscapes and a humungous wobbegong shark made of rubbish washed up on a beach.
*It was fun going to the studio to colour in and make flamingoes from "Alice in Wonderland".
*We got to learn about all the books in the Children's Book Week Awards. We also looked on the shelves and noticed a few different books from the ones we have in our library.
Mrs MGuirk explained that libraries and schools purchase from different shops, so it's good to borrow from the town library as well as the school library for choice and variety in books.
*I liked sitting under the stars in the library and using the 3D glasses on the "Alice in Wonderland" anaglyphic book - that's a book converted from 2D to 3D.
*My grade got to have a sneak look at the glass art display by Tom Moore from South Australia. It was amazing.
*When we first walked up the stairs to the art gallery we stopped and said our St Nicholas School, Welcome to Country. Emma our guide said we were wonderful to remember it so well. We all felt very proud. Emma talked to us about the "Alice in Wonderland" quilts.
The best thing was when we got to sit inside the big "Songlines" tent and listen to the sounds and watch all the colours and lights of the story "Tracking the Seven Sisters".
"The strongest positive impact on reading engagement and learning gains come from student self-selection of reading materials. When reading materials are selected for students the links to engagement and learning gain decline significantly."

The St Nicholas School Library is OPEN 5 days a week.
Please ensure your child is prepared by reminding them to place their books and library bags in their school bag the night before.
All students, K - 6 must have a library bag. This is listed as a requirement on the student equipment list each year.
LOTS and LOTS of NEW BOOKS to be borrowed with a LIBRARY BAG.
LIBRARY BAGS MATTER... Not just some of the time but all of the time.
No food or drink on my books.
Food and drink are for the chooks.
Library bags keep ‘em clean.
Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.
Bring your bag every time.
Fill it up and get in line.
Have it scanned and scoot on out.
LIBRARY BAGS
We all shout.
