Student Voice News

The Prep and Grade 1 and 2 Student Voice representatives met recently. After a very big discussion, they came up with so many wonderful ideas around helping others less fortunate than ourselves. Finally, after much debate on how many projects they could run (they are ready to save the world!) they came up with their two favourite projects that they would like to work on next term. These are:

  • Collecting old glasses to help children and adults overseas who can't afford glasses. They will begin the research next term to see which organisation they would like to work with and then start collecting!
  • Helping the homeless people stay warm by hopefully starting a knitting club at school and/or also asking our families to help knit some squares which the students can sew together to make blankets for the Salvation Army.

The students also had a big discussion about our school and celebrated all the wonderful play spaces we have and how lucky we are to go to a school like our. Some students also came up with some ideas to make our school even better and we will be looking at ways of helping to action some improvements.

From the Senior School Student Voice Leaders

For the past two terms, the Grade Sixes have become Tribes leaders and run the Tribes sessions. In case you didn’t know, Tribes is a group activity where all of the different grades mix, forming new ‘Tribes’. Within the time that Tribes go for, students will be in different classrooms to their regular ones, participating in activities with kids younger and older than them, as an opportunity to get to know different people in the school. In the most recent Tribes session, students learnt about totems. This lesson was planned out by Milly Dinnison and the kids loved it! Everyone got to share with the tribe what they think their totem could be. Hudson from Grade 3 says “It was good because you got to share your thoughts and feelings about totems.” We also played a game called ‘two to a crayon’ which is where two people hold the same crayon and draw something without talking to each other, so it’s a game of teamwork. The tribes session was finished off with a colouring sheet and new friendships continued to grow.
