Wear it Purple

Wear it Purple is a day that raises awareness to support and advocate for rainbow young people against bullying and harassment. This year Kempsey High School supported ‘Wear it Purple Day on the 26th of August. The Wellbeing team led by Eleisha organised an event to celebrate the diversity and different identities that are present in our school community. The LGBTQIA+ group of students helped in organising the event by decorating the hall with different flags and wearing purple. Music and snacks were enjoyed together during lunch, along with prizes and rainbow merchandise that was given to students.

Thank you to all teachers and staff together with our amazing students who joined the event and Wear it Purple. Well done Kempsey High!

R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. This year the theme of R U OK? Day was ‘no qualifications needed’. We are all qualified to start a conversation to ask R U OK?. To make this a reality here at Kempsey High, the Wellbeing team collaborated with Clontarf and NASCA, Junior AECG, student leaders and staff to organise the R U OK Day activities for the 8th of September. There was a BBQ lunch followed by five different activities in period 5. Woolworths Kempsey also donated a box of fruit for students to enjoy. All these events were around how we all can normalise asking each other R U OK?, to listen and act.

Students played oz tag and basketball, played board games, created bracelets, decorated cupcakes and created beautiful art. We all need to look out for each other and support each other on difficult days. All students’ art will be put into a mural around the school premises to remind us all that every day is a good day to ask R U OK?

We want everyone in our community to feel they can talk about how they’re really feeling and access support if they need it. R U OK? encourages all of us to have regular, meaningful conversations to support anyone struggling with life’s ups and downs.

Ask R U OK? - No qualifications needed. Because a conversation could change a life.
