Principal’s Report

Dear families and carers,

Term 3 has continued to provide our students with a huge variety of engaging and stimulating learning experiences. Our Year 3-6 school Athletics Carnival took place on Wednesday, and the students have been having a terrific time with Costa, during PE and lunch time, learning all the different events. Thank you, Costa, for all the time and energy you put in to ensure these events can run and are successful.  Our Foundation students will be involved in a Fire Incursion next week as part of their inquiry into learning all about jobs this term. Some of the jobs will include emergency services, community workers, trades people and jobs at school.  We also have our book week parade on Monday 22nd August at 9.15am.  This is a chance for children to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. We cannot wait to see the imagination and creativity of our students. It is such an entertaining day! Parents and Carers are also welcomed to join in! The more, the merrier.

National Principal’s Day

On Friday 6th August, Hana and I were humbled by the overwhelming acknowledgement from staff, students, and parents for National Principal Day. To be honest, we feel so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful community. Our work daily is pure joy because of the outstanding teachers, students, and families, that foster a love of learning in our students. Our students are exceptional young people, and I am truly honoured to be the principal of such an incredible school and community.   Nothing thrills me more than to hear students speak at assembly about their challenges and achievements and ensuring we have authentic student voice and agency at Moreland PS. We left the assembly strong in the knowledge that if you empower students, they do exceptional things.

Hume and Moreland Network Principal’s conference

Hana and I will be attending the Hume and Moreland Network Principal’s conference on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August.  The focus will be around Learning and Wellbeing and is a perfect opportunity to meet with local principals and assistant principals and learn about the latest research and best practice in education. We will be made aware of many new innovations in student wellbeing and learn more around the framework for improving student outcomes (FISO 2).

‘Bump it up’ wall- Celebration of Learning

Throughout this term, I have had the pleasure of reading and displaying our student’s fantastic work in my office.  I love having students come to me and share their learning and the sense of pride they feel puts a real smile on my face.

Wellbeing Leaders

Congratulations to our new Grade 4 wellbeing leaders, Niamh Heery and Lola Hynes. We are excited to have student voice in grade 4, along with our grade 6 wellbeing leaders.

Maya Gen is also our new Junior School Council Representative (JSC), replacing a student that has left our school.  Congratulations Maya, we look forward to you attending our JSC meetings and contributing your thoughts and ideas.

Parent Opinion Survey

Each year the Department of Education and Training (DET) conducts a Parent Survey in all schools across Victoria. This survey randomly selects parents to participate and provide important feedback on the operations, programs, and activities of their school. This feedback is used by schools to assess its strengths and areas for improvement in the development of community and home partnerships.

We have decided to survey all families and would greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete the questions online, following the link that was distributed via COMPASS. All surveys remain confidential and are returned to DET for collation. Data is then provided to us which outlines the responses including graphical representation and tables graphical representation and tables comparing your responses to State.

Thank You

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our entire staff throughout this year. They have dealt with COVID, and other infectious diseases and has resulted in additional students in their classes when we are unable to hire replacement staff.   Due to shortages beyond our control,  staff have continued to manage complete changes to their learning programs at very short notice, when they have had to stand in for absent teachers. Despite these significant difficulties, the rich learning in the classroom has continued and staff continue to provide excellent teaching and learning.  We are grateful to have such flexible and caring staff at our school.
