Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival

The Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival has been running for 30 years. McCarthy has participated in this event on numerous occasions over the last 10 years. Last year, we recorded our performances and participated in the online version of the Festival. This year, the Festival returned to a live event over four days, during this time over 9000 students from 100+ schools performed in choirs, concert bands, string ensembles and guitar ensembles.

29 members of the McCarthy Catholic College Concert Band traveled to Brisbane to perform in the Music Festival. We left on Thursday 11 August, and returned on Sunday 14 August. We had the opportunity to watch a variety of performances, as well as having some practice time at our accommodation, as well as enjoying time playing tennis, table tennis and a lively final night trivia contest.

The Concert Band performed three pieces at the festival, High Hopes by Panic! At the Disco, Waltz Number 2 by Schostakovic, and Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. The band received a Bronze Award as well as valuable feedback from the judges.

Congratulations to all students who attended and represented the College so well.

Hello - Bonjour - Buongiorno - Yaama

Languages at McCarthy

The two new words that were displayed in 16 and 14 languages in week 3 and 5 were:

happy & school.

It is always a pleasure to discover these words written and pronounced in so many languages.

Our College has a rich cultural and linguistic diversity. Through this project, we get to know new staff and students who come from a different background and expand our horizons.

An ongoing well done and thank you to Anita, Charlie, Emma, Lam and Sophia for their wonderful work!

A special thank you to our artist Allyza for her wonderful illustrations.

And thank you to Arpitha, Santiago, Gurleen, Lynn, Riza and Thomas for their contribution to the poster words.

Advanced Notice: “Languages Day” in Week 9 - We will celebrate our cultural diversity and the many beautiful languages of our community on Tuesday 13 September.
