Tree Planting Day

On the 24th of May, the school conducted a Tree Planting Day that was organised by the Student Leadership Team. It was a day filled with fun as students got to be hands-on with the activities which included digging holes and planting some mature trees and tube stock around the school grounds. Year 7 students learnt about the importance of nature and how we should conserve it in the current world. We arranged an assembly for Belinda, from Whitehorse City Council, to talk to the year 7s about how to increase sustainability within our school community and their own homes. They all got the opportunity to take home an indigenous tube stock that they could plant at home to maintain greenery.

We wanted to say a big thank you to all the people who volunteered their time to help us. Especially the year 7s, your enthusiasm and hard work does not go unnoticed. We are excited to continue this and make it a school tradition where we get the year 7s to learn about Native Australian plants. We hope this day has inspired the school community to take extra care with plants they have at home and that students are more willing to help around the school.

Thanks to Ms Stals, Mr Stevens, Mr Smyth, and Mr Davies for being involved in the process and supporting the team in making this day a huge success!

Last week, certain students got their hands dirty and planted many new trees all around the school. One of the trees that we planted near the front of the school is now known as Barry Da Banksia.

Also, Year 7 students had the privilege of attending the Cosmodome incursion for Science. A Cosmodome was inflated in the Fallon Centre. It was like we were inside an inflateable igloo where we looked at the night sky. We had such a good time learning about the stars and the different constellations. Students also learned about the Sun’s light rays hitting different Tropics during the different seasons in each hemisphere. “It was good,” says Zachary of 7M2.

Uniform and Diaries

We are pleased to see students wearing winter school uniform as the weather has become cooler. Please remember to label clothing as several warm unclaimed school jackets remain on the Year 7 Lost Property table. We are also writing fewer out-of-uniform passes recently, which is great, as students are remembering which days that have PE. Thank you to parents who are providing notes when their child is wearing out-of-uniform items temporarily. Notes to Student Managers may also be written in school Diaries by parents.

Diaries

Visits to home-group classes by some Senior Students for an experiment has revealed that diary use is sporadic across the cohort. We would like to encourage students to take their diaries to every class and to record assignment due dates and homework in the diary. Students could consider carrying their diaries in their device cover, to ensure it travels to every class. This may assist students to remember to take their diaries home too!
