Yr 10 Duke of Edinburgh Voluntary Service

The Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh class have been busy working across Semester One completing voluntary service as a requirement of completing their Bronze Certificates. The class has been working in conjunction with the Friends of the Dell to complete maintenance and gardening works at Bellbird Dell Reserve and at Vermont Secondary College. Students have undertaken clearing, mulching and planting of native plant species and have gained insight into the amount of biodiversity and types of flora and fauna present in our local environments.

A highlight of the works have been the important conservation work completed at Vermont College within a garden that is home to Pterostylis Greenhood Orchids, an indigenous species whose habitat has vastly diminished and is under threat. Next week we are off on a 3 day hike of the Mitchell River National Park!! Well done and Good Luck!!
