2023 GSSSSA AFL Carnival - Years Seven and Eight

Girls Recap

On Wednesday 24 May, we were privileged to attend the 2023 GSSSSA AFL Year Seven and Eight Carnival as the girls' coaches. We were very fortunate to have an amazing group of students that were willing to give anything a go even when the weather was not ideal. We began the day shivering and with not much knowledge of the game, although as the day progressed, we continued to shiver but were delivering incredible plays and showed brilliant skill progress.

We played five games for the day, starting strong with a win over ASHS. This was the only win for the day, although we aimed for little wins and focuses for each game. We started with the main focus of tackling and being a team including backing each other by shepherding and getting around one another. We played our final against St Joseph’s for 4th v 5th and unfortunately couldn’t secure the top spot, but we finished the day very positively.

A massive thank you to Mrs Sprigg who helped us out for the day ensuring we were at the correct place when we needed to be there, and everyone had a jacket on when on the interchange or refuelling with lollies. Thank you to all the teachers that made this day possible and allowed us to be involved on this amazing day. Overall, a big thanks to all the students that participated and gave it their all even when the rain, wind and cold attempted to get the better of us.

Boys Recap

The boys team played with excellent spirit and effort all day. We had many boys playing in positions they weren’t used to, and they approached this challenge head-on. With shortened games and tough weather conditions, the day became less about the end results and more about the boy’s pride in representing the school. I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and sportsmanship shown all day. A special thanks to all of the spectators who came down to cheer the team on. It was greatly appreciated.
