Future of education

I have recently been exploring a report entitled Seven Disruptors Impacting the Future of Education from McCrindle.  It is interesting to hear the research distilled into a series of key messages for us to consider.  Our tendency sometimes, when we hear the word 'disruptors' is to think about disaster, threat, or even destruction but I like to think about disruption as an opportunity to respond, to find new and better ways of doing things.  The list of disruptors includes:

  • Artificial intelligence and technological change
  • Individualisation of learning
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Consumer approach to education
  • Teacher burnout
  • Attracting and retaining the next generation of teachers
  • Achieving educational reform in a risk averse culture

That looks like it could be an intimidating list of challenges but it provides excellent direction and, in many ways is reassuring, as we are currently working on developing high quality policies and practices across these areas.  As the old adage goes, the only thing constant is change.

Albany Women's Centre Kare Kits

Our Year Six students Amaya Sepkus and Madeleine Stratico are collecting donations for Kare Kits for the Albany Women's Centre. Donations can be dropped off in the collection boxes located around the school during Term Two. There are boxes in Mrs Gordon's Year Six classroom and at Secondary and Primary Administration offices.

Donations can include hygiene products such as: hairbrushes, combs, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, face wash and washers, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste and sanitary products. Children's essentials such as new school bags, drink bottles, lunch boxes, clothing, underwear and sleepwear are also welcomed.

Please support this fantastic initiative.

Amy Coombe visit

Thank you to our P&F who provided support for the visit from Amy Coombe last week. Students in Years Four to Twelve benefitted from Amy's warm, wise words and her down-to-earth approach.  Amy reminded students that despite things feeling hard and sometimes overwhelming, they have many strategies and people to call on when they need support. We also very much enjoyed seeing a good number of parents and guardians at the evening Sundowner and information session - it's a joy to share these events on campus. There are more details regarding the parent event in the evening on the P&F page.

Uniform Shop

Please note that the Uniform Shop will be closed on Monday 22 May.
