A Message from David

Last week, on release of the state budget, we received confirmation that Thornbury Primary School will share in the $24 million School Upgrade Delivery Fund. This will provide funding to begin planning and design work for the election commitment project announced last year of $17.6 million to modernise the school, including a two-storey community hub and prep-year 1 learning centre along with upgrades to the library and main building.

Commencing the planning process now allows us to plan the project ahead of funding for the construction phase being allocated in a future state budget. The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), in conjunction with Department of Education regional office staff, will support us over the course of our planning process.

The first part of this process is to complete an Asset Management Plan. This is a 5-year plan to ensure the school’s maintenance and upgrade needs align with the capital works project and support our school’s vision for the future. This will include our aspirations for optimising learning, teaching and community connections. We have already started this work, seeking input and feedback through community and staff forums. The appointment of an architect will take place in the second half of the year with further opportunities for contributions to the design process.
