Year 4 Camp

A huge thank you the staff (Matt O'Shea, James Millane, Mak De Iuliis, Ed Weekes and Danielle Gerecke) who attended the Year 4 Camp at Grantville Lodge last Monday to Wednesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed participating in canoeing, high ropes, bike riding, low ropes and an Amazing Race.

Canoeing was the best activity to participate in. We grabbed an oar, found a partner and grabbed a canoe. My partner was Roman. We nearly tipped the canoe over multiple times. We played a few games such as World Domination and Lolly Domination, where you pick a country or lolly and try to tap another persons canoe. When you tap the canoe, you would say the name of the country or lolly and the canoe that takes over wins. Canoeing was so fun but I could not wait for the giant swing which was the next activity.

The high ropes were difficult to start but became easier at the end but we could only have two goes at it. The last one was the easiest. I did have an overwhelming time on the Leap of Faith platform because it was so high. Eventually I did jump off even though I was scared. It was my favourite activity on high ropes. I also did the slap bridge.

National Reconciliation Week

What is National Reconciliation Week?

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

Today, our staff and students gathered together to pray and acknowledge Reconciliation Week. Thank you to Mr Millane for coordinating this special paraliturgy.

Lord, we pray for Reconciliation:

That the mistakes of the past may be recognised,

That our awareness of the journey so far, continues to grow

And that the Holy Spirit moves us to walk the talk and continue what has been started.

We ask this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN

Happy 90th Birthday Stan!

Our beloved Crossing Supervisor Stan turned the young age of 90 on Monday. Stan has supervised many Sacred Heart Kew school community members over 22 years, standing on the corner of Cotham and Glenferrie Roads, come rain, hail or shine.

Stan enjoyed a special birthday morning tea with the staff this week, where he was presented with a card, a gift voucher for the Skinny Dog and his very own Sacred Heart Kew umbrella.

On behalf of the school community, our Parents' Association presented Stan with a gift voucher from CRU to show their love and best wishes for his special, milestone birthday. Happy birthday Stan. You're a LEGEND!
