Djeran Edition

Welcome to the Djeran edition of the Albany Update!

Djeran is the Noongar season when the cooler weather begins, with cool nights bringing a break in hot weather.  There is an onset of cool days and light breezes.  It's a beautiful time of the year to be in Albany.

Mark McGowan Retirement from State Parliament

It has been a privilege to be part of a WA Government led by Mark McGowan, who has always had a special interest in Albany. As a leader he is disciplined, committed, thoughtful and impactful. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to work alongside him and learn from him. He leaves behind big shoes to fill, but we have a very talented Cabinet with whom I look forward to working in order to best represent the people of Albany.

Easter Egg Hunt

For the second year, over 200 children and their families attended my Magical Easter Egg Hunt in Alison Hartman Gardens. This event is wonderful; the children and their parents go to such an effort with costumes and beautiful handmade Easter bonnets.

I love celebrating Easter, not just because I have children to enjoy it with, but because it represents a time when we come together as families and as a community to spend time with loved ones and friends.

Premier Mark McGowan Visit

In early April, I was very pleased to take Premier Mark McGowan to visit Yakamia Primary School, where we experienced the new Nature Playground made possible following my $10,000 small election commitment to the school.  We also toured the amazing gardens and new upgrades to the library.

It was a privilege to show Premier Mark McGowan around my old high school, Albany Senior High School, and visit the site of the redeveloped Performing Arts Centre. I cannot wait for students and the Albany community to enjoy this state-of-the-art facility once work is completed.

Senator Sue Lines Visit

In April, Senator Sue Lines visited Albany to co-host a community forum on The Voice.  We participated in a Noongar yarning circle with members of the Menang Noongar community and and toured the Big Grove land estate, a part of the South West Native Title settlement.

Football West Festival of Football

A big thank you to Football West for choosing the City of Albany to host the Festival of Football, 2023.  With over 1500 players participating in the Great Southern, it was fantastic to see Retravision Stadium Sporting Precinct packed with families watching the games on Saturday.

I was very pleased to represent the Minister for Sport, David Templeman MLA, who is a huge supporter of regional events. Football West received funding through the Sport and Recreation Events Funding 2022-23. It was great that the event was free for our community to enjoy.

US Submariners Memorial Service

It was my honour to attend this always moving memorial ceremony that pays tribute to the United Submarines who operated from the Port of Albany during World War ll.
