Kings Park Campus Principal Message
Campus Principals Report- Kings Park
June 2023
Welcome to Winter on Campus! It certainly has been a cold end to the semester.
Students and their families attended the Year 9 and 10 Pathways Information Evening on Tuesday 23rd of May. Students and their nominated counsellors will be discussing Pathways options in the coming months. Parents and families are invited to participate in these discussions that will culminate in Course Finalisation Days in August. Choosing subjects and deciding on Pathways options are exciting milestones for students and we encourage students to dream big and follow your passion.
Year 10 Exams begin on Thursday June 8th. Thank you to Kylie Brookshaw and Heath Simpson for their organisation of the exam timetable and for the informative assemblies held last week. Students are now well prepared for what to expect during the exam period. Students undertaking a VCE subject in their Year 10 program completed those exams at the Delahey Campus. Year 9 students completed their exams last week, also
Our semester 1 Music Concert took place on Thursday June 1st at the Bowery Theatre. This was another great opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents. Thank you to the Performing Arts Team for their support and hard work in preparing students for the evening.
The Campus has recently had an ‘influx’ of enrolments, particularly at Year 9 and 10. While this is pleasing, if has placed strain on our resources at Year 9 in particular.
Our Advance Classes have organised a number of activities this term, generally focussed around ‘food’. It has helped to create a fun atmosphere in the yard and provided fundraising for community organisations.
The end of term is fast approaching, and we take this time to remind our students and families of our Campus goals;
Attendance and Belonging: Students at school, in class on time, and remaining in class (AIP) (Attendance 78% / 10 days per term absent (1 day each week); Late (Unapp.) 12,019 Periods /Ave.18)
Use of Routines: Use of fluid seating arrangements based on student data and need (AIP; Aspirational Learning Environment)
Pride in the Environment: Respect for the environment students learn, play and socialise in, and in which we work (e.g. classrooms, corridors, toilets and the yard) (Physical Environment as a stressor 12%; State 5%)
Student Acknowledgement: Notice when students do the ‘right thing’ or strive for their personal best, and let them know (KP: Positives, 2980; Needs Improvement; 2570). (AIP; ALE)
It is pleasing to see the high number of genuine positive Compass posts, recognition of the many good things our students do. We thank teachers for taking the time to let students know that you notice them when they demonstrate the best versions of themselves.
