VOLUNTEERING IN The

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

PROGRAM

Calling all families

Do you or anyone you know have a feijoa tree?  Some of us were lucky enough to try some of the uniquely flavoured, sweet, sour, tangy fruit in Kitchen class last week.  Sadly there were not enough to go around to every class.  So if you could donate some to the SAKG Kitchen, the grades 3 and 4 students would be extremely grateful.

We have made a variety of soups and breads over the last few weeks, and this week we are making gnocchi two ways, with a kale and cauliflower sauce.  We are also beginning the process of preserving the olives.  It is a bumper crop this year.  Several buckets have already been sent off to Ceres for pressing into our own olive oil.  How enormously exciting.

There is so much to learn and do in the both the Kitchen and the Garden classes.  If you or anyone you know are over 18 years old, have a Working with Children Check  and would like to join us by volunteering, I guarantee you will have fun, and the students will be so thankful you did.  All the students wear name tags, and the teachers remain present for the class.  Your job is simply to help the students read and follow instructions.

See you in the Kitchen Garden
