Kitchen Garden News Weeks 4 and 5

Enjoy reading a selection of our year 5 & 6 Kitchen Garden Reports this week in our newsletter.

Both Year 4s and 5/6 s completed their final block of Kitchen Garden Classes. This means they have had 16 extra hours of STEM learning this year ! Students continued their investigations of potatoes which included two science experiments, research, and a design task. In the Kitchen they made Bombay potatoes in Week 4 and Tortilla de Patatas in Week 5. Both Vicki and I are very proud of the student’s kitchen and science skills they have developed over both blocks of learning.

Manning’s Report

We made BOMBAY POTATOES !!!!! They were brilliant and delicious and yummy and oh, I just want more of them.

We absolutely jam packed them full of spices and made them taste brilliant. The spices were cumin, turmeric, coriander, mustard seeds, garam masala and an Indian spice mix that was divine. On the side we made a mint tzatziki and personally, I’m not  one for yoghurt, but this….. this was something else. It had tang and sweetness and it was so good. I gave it a 9.375/10 because it was so good, but not perfect.

Edie’s Report

Today we made a special potato dish called Bombay Potatoes containing various Indian spices. When we started to fry the onions and the spices the room was filled with delicious smells and made everyone crave food.

I did some research and focussed on researching different types of potatoes. I love eating sweet potatoes and I want to try cooking Hassle back potatoes. We cooked Bombay Potatoes today. The Incas were the first people to cultivate potatoes and they had over two hundred names for potatoes

Aya’ s Report

On Friday, our class made delicious Bombay Potatoes. I personally really enjoyed making them because it was my first time and I learnt about the different spices, smells, and tastes. Even though I have eaten lots of boiled potatoes in my life, this time I found eating them very interesting because of how they tasted.
