VCE Motivate

VCE Motivate aims to provide valuable information and material to students, not only to assist them through their VCE studies but also in how to navigate post-schooling life. Each week, students may hear from a range of guest speakers, Girton Alumni, Universities and industry leaders in addition to understanding how to process the necessary forms and paperwork attached to Tertiary entrance.  This week, Year Twelve students heard from several Colleges attached to The University of Melbourne and Deakin University to gain an understanding of what life is like when living ‘on residence’ whilst studying at University.

Representatives from University College, St. Mary’s College, Newman College, International House and Deakin University Residential Services spoke about the many benefits that students have when staying on campus.  Intra-College competitions, College Balls, cultural and social events, study tutorials and activities as broad as Quidditch or Stand-Up Paddleboarding aim to connect students who may be adjusting to living away from home. Some even offered cleaning and laundry services which was met with great enthusiasm! In addition, each College has a large proportion of ‘country kids’ from rural and regional Victoria or Interstate; the close community and sense of belonging students feel is fostered by being surrounded with support networks to help with the transition to city life.

The Colleges spoke about the many scholarship opportunities available to regional students as well as the application and interview process that take place near the end of the year. We encourage students to visit Student Futures to ask any questions they may have about living ‘on res’ next year or in the future.
