Last term, I handmade cards for Ukrainian refugees that were coming to Australia.

This came about as my mum has a Ukrainian friend living in Sydney who was working within the Ukrainian community to welcome Ukrainian refugees and helping them with the transition to Australia. I make cards as a hobby, so it was nice that I could use my hobby to help people in such a bad situation.

I made the cards with symbols that represent Ukraine, such as sunflowers and their flag colours - yellow and blue as well as including meaningful sentiments. These sentiments that I chose to use were ones about hope, peace and kindness. Showing these signs of kindness to the Ukrainian refugees is important to show that they have support from Australians whilst their country is facing horrible injustice and peril. It makes me feel good to support the Ukrainian people as it helps them have more hope for a better future, and to know that it means a lot for them to receive a card that sends hope for a better future.

It is just one small way to help the Ukrainian people, which I strongly believe is important to support them as what is happening to their country is wrong. I also hope to raise awareness of this in the community.
