Principal's Report

by Helen Freeman

What a fabulous way to start the week and the beginning of Book Week with our Book Character Parade at assembly on Monday. Thank you to the parents who attended our Book Week parade and for your enthusiasm in preparing the wonderful costumes that our children were wearing. Tomorrow we conclude the week with students bringing their favourite bedtime story book and wearing their PJ’s to school. We’re all so looking forward to it!

Student Enrolment

Do you have a child starting in Foundation next year, or know someone who does? Maybe you know a family who has recently moved, or is looking to move, into the area? It is imperative that all prospective 2023 students are enrolled as soon as possible. If you are an existing family, please complete the enrolment form below, along with Immunisation records and Birth certificate.  All completed information is to be emailed to syndal.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au or dropped into our office.  If you would like to book a tour, please contact the office.

Father’s Day

It’s been a hive of industry at school today with our wonderful volunteer parents wrapping all the great gifts for the Father’s Day stall. Next Friday, the 2nd of September we will be holding our Father’s Day (or special person day) Stall when students will be able to purchase a small gift for Dad or someone special in their lives. Prices will range from $2 to $8.

One of our wonderful Foundation mums, Ying has donated a colourful balloon garland to be raffled for one lucky student to win for their dad to enjoy. Each student can purchase a ticket in the special Father’s Day raffle for just $1 next Friday at the stall. We recommend that younger students have their money in an envelope clearly marked with their name and class. A huge thank you to the Parent’s Association, who have once again volunteered to coordinate the stall.

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

Just a reminder that the Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is still open for those who may not have the chance to complete it. Details for the survey were sent out via a newsfeed. I encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey results are extremely important to us to celebrate what the school is doing well but also the areas we need to change and improve on to ensure our school maintains the high standard of education that our students experience and relish at Syndal South Primary School.

It’s Not Too Late!

A reminder that our students under the talented guidance of Mrs Mann our wonderful visual art teacher have worked enthusiastically to decorate a large cardboard tree that is now on display on the lower level at Brandon Park Shopping Centre. Our tree is full of bright flowers, felted birds, butterflies and bugs. Decorated during art classes, students in every year level have added elements to make the tree bright and colourful.

Cash prizes are being awarded by the Centre Management for the three trees that they decide best to meet the brief of a Springtime tree.  Another prize of $1000 will be given to the tree that receives the most votes from shoppers.

Please visit Brandon Park Shopping Centre in Springvale Road and vote for Syndal South’s colourful springtime tree. You can use the QR code to view and vote for our tree.

Gym

We have been fortunate enough over the years to be able to successfully apply for funding from the Australian Government Sporting Schools Fund so that our students are able to experience a variety sports lead by qualified trainers.  Starting last week all classes are enjoying GYM Steps an enjoyable carefully sequenced progression of lessons that develops each student's ability to enjoy and perform movement sequences combining effort, space, objects, and people in gymnastics. The program is being run by TriSkills Australia and from the feedback that I have received from both the students and the teachers, the program is very successful.

Finally, a reminder that we have our Disco on tomorrow night which we will have our ‘disco dancing shoes’ ready for.  Also, this Monday 29th August is a Professional Practice Day for our staff therefore students will not be required to attend school.

Enjoy your fortnight,

Helen
