Science Technology Engineering Maths

We would like to give a massive thank you to our Community Association for their incredible fundraising efforts. With the money raised so far this year, the school was able to purchase a class set of Spheros.

Spheros are undeniably-cool, programmable robots. Spheros can be used across Digital Technology and STEM education as a tool that transforms the way kids learn, create and invent, through coding, science, music, and the arts.

The Year 5/6s have been the first to test out these very special Spheros and were thrilled to see what they could do. In groups, students were given a Sphero and downloaded the app and were asked to trial what functions the spheros had. Their discoveries were then shared with the class and they collated their findings. This activity promoted collaboration, problem solving, persistence and clear communication as well as many other important skills.

Here are some of the students reflections on their experiences so far:

“One thing that we discovered was that it moved in more ways than we had imagined.” - Jasmine

“Next time I want to trial how the Sphero goes on a pre determined course.” - Florence

“The best part about them is making them move and they can draw designs and patterns when we use coding.” - Harry

The Year 5/6 classes will continue to use these throughout the term within Digital Technology and will be designing tracks that incorporate the many different functions and uses of the Spheros.
