BOOK WEEK

This year at Ripponlea we are going to Celebrate Book Week on Monday 22nd of August.

Not only are we going to have our annual dress-up procession, but we are also going to hold a morning tea and book swap!! On this day we invite all parents to attend both the parade and the morning tea.

Great Book Swap

Between now and Tuesday the 16th of August we ask that each child brings in at least 1 book that they no longer read and would like to trade. There will be a box in each classroom where they can place these books. We ask that the books are in good condition as they will be used for children to get a new book on the day of the event. On the day you and your child will have the opportunity to look at all the books and your child will choose a new book they would like to take home. There will also be the chance to donate a gold coin which will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation: ILF

Family morning tea

(Head to Qkr! to pre-order your scones) You can choose between plain, fruit & cheese and 2x scones will be $4. Head to QKR and place your orders by Wednesday the 17th of August

For the morning tea we are making a range of scones (including plain, cheese or fruit). If you wish to purchase these for your child please access the QKR! App, and make your selection under the 'Ripper Families' tab.

PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

The 2022 Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge is now open, so let's get reading Rippers. Parents can register from home or email Mrs. Rose, who can register your child/ren.

The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition, but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 2 September 2022.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge

Foundation to Year 2

  • Number of books: 30
  • Number of books from the Challenge book list: 20 or more

Year 3 to Year 9

  • Number of books: 15
  • Number of books from the Challenge book list: 10 or more

What you can read

Most of the books you read should be from the Challenge book lists. The rest can be any book you choose.

You can read books on the book list for your year level or a level above and they'll count towards your Challenge total. You should check with your teachers or parents if you're not in years 9 or 10 and want to read a book from that list. This list includes titles for mature readers.

You can read a book from a level below your year level if your teacher agrees. You still need to read the number of books for your year level to meet the Challenge.

COVID - 19 UPDATES

Our school continues to follow the guidelines of the Education and Health Department by encouraging staff and students to wear masks whilst indoors. We highly recommend that students and staff wear masks, especially when a confirmed case is identified in their class or year level.

Masks are an added protection against the spread of all viruses. We will continue to promote strong COVIDSafe measures in our school. This includes enhanced ventilation through air purifiers, promoting vaccination and keeping the vital safety steps such as staying home when unwell and washing hands. This is about keeping our school as safe as possible.

Rapid Antigen Tests will be distributed throughout this term, but families are welcome to come and get kits directly from the office whenever required.

The most important things for families to know are:

  • Please continue to report COVID cases to the school either via email or phone as soon as possible, this also includes if your child is a household contact.
  • As stated in the guidelines - Where a student is a household contact of a positive case (that is, they have spent more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house, accommodation, or care facility) they must inform the school.
  • Household and household-like contacts are no longer required to quarantine as long as they take additional safety measures in the 7 days that would have been their quarantine period.
  • They can return to school as long as they have no symptoms, undertake rapid antigen tests five times within their 7-day period and wear face masks indoors if they are aged 8 and above (unless they have a valid face mask exemption.
  • If any household contact returns a positive RAT result during this period, they must isolate for 7 days and not attend school.

Many Thanks,

RPS Team
