Dear Members of the Academy Community

Winter is the  slowdown
Winter is the search for self
Winter gives the silence you need to listen
Winter goes grey so you can see your own colours.

- Terri Guillemets

Yes it has been cold! But hopefully the cold and chill of winter have provided us with the opportunity  to stop, be still, quieten ourselves and experience some times of introspection and silence.  I hope you have all enjoyed some quiet Winter days.

Welcome back to Term 3!  The year is racing away!  As the winter days of extreme cold merge into warmer days, the pace of life quickens and there are many College events that herald this.  Term 3 is a very busy term with a myriad of events scheduled to take place especially  for the Parent community. These events include: Parent/Teacher Interviews, Fathers’ Day Breakfast, Mercy Day Mass and  Mother/Daughter Afternoon Tea. Please see Important Dates for details.

The students have returned to school for Term 3 excited to know that the day that they herald as the most important day of our school year, Mercy Day, will take place (all being well) on Friday 9 September with a 10.00am Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, followed by a sausage sizzle and then the afternoon dance events.  This will be the first time since 2019 that we have been able to celebrate Mercy Day in the traditional way.   We look forward to a wonderful celebration of the Academy community on this day – celebrating our 165th anniversary under the theme “Together in Mercy.”   Parents are, of course, warmly welcome to attend our Mercy Day Mass at the Cathedral.

Likewise, our Year 10 students are looking forward to their week of Work Experience – again a week that has not been able to be scheduled  for three years.

A reminder, too, to Academy parents and indeed all parents who have a daughter in Grade 5 – the last day for enrolment applications for 2024 is Friday 19 August. Please ensure you enrol your daughter by this date.

Unfortunately, as we are all aware, the Covid virus continues to escalate and weave its insidious way through the community. We have had a constant stream of staff and students affected by this. I extend congratulations to our students who have understood and accepted the need for mask wearing. The safety of all is our priority.

I wish you all a happy Term 3!

Every blessing,
