WISE Women incursion
In Week 10, Term 1, our Year 5-10 students participated in a morning of STEM brain puzzles, delivered by Caitlin from Murdoch University. The students were placed in teams and assigned a ‘Breakout Box’ where they had to race against the clock to solve a series of problems where the answers to each problem provided the combination to open locks and reveal the next stage of the puzzle. The students were able to refine their teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The feedback was that they really enjoyed the challenge! There is a follow-up WISE Women's one-night camp in Term 4 to this incursion. Year 8-10 female students will attend Murdoch University to immerse themselves in a STEM-based event.
Tully Bevilaqua Zoom Session
The Secondary students had a Zoom session with basketball extraordinaire Tully Bevilaqua. Tully grew up in Merredin and went on to play basketball for the WNBA in the United States and for Australia in the Olympics. She is currently a basketball commentator and is moving to New Zealand in May to coach the women’s professional basketball league. Tully talked to the students about her career, goal-setting, overcoming setbacks, and how her childhood in the Wheatbelt helped shaped her future. The students engaged in a Q&A session at the end of the talk.
