Level 3/4

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in grade 3! We have finished our persuasive writing unit, and have been introduced to the basic structure of a narrative. Our reading sessions have focused on making predictions and activating our prior knowledge when we are reading a text. In Maths we have been exploring different strategies to help us with subtraction, and have also been introduced to 2D shapes.

In Level 4, for Writing, we have continued to work on persuasive pieces. We have focused on improving our structure in our introductions, body paragraphs and conclusions. For Reading, we have been working on understanding nouns, common nouns, proper nouns and pronouns. We have been working on the strategies making of text to self, world and text connections. We have also continuing with our reading rotations. For Maths, we have working on 2D and 3D shapes.  We have continued our work on the Resilience Project and been working on expanding our understanding and skills around Gratitude. We have been looking for at things in our everyday lives that we are grateful for. Our Inquiry learning has been focused on looking at rivers, mountains and how they are formed and we are continuing with our mapping of locations around Australia. Level 4 students have also started presenting their projects to the class. It is fantastic to see all the hard work people have put into their projects.

On Friday March 25th we celebrated Harmony Day. We had a jam-packed day with lots of activities. In the morning we did a whole school photo on the oval and had a moving ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony and parade at our school assembly. We then did some activities with our buddies and all added a gratitude leaf to our tree which is on display outside the office. We finished off the day by coming back together as a whole school and having a Bollywood dance lesson. It was fantastic to see so many students dressed in the clothing of their own culture or orange clothing.

On Monday 28th of March we also had our whole school house athletics carnival. We all came together to have a go at many athletics events. This was a good way for the Level 3 and 4 students to showcase all of the skills that they have learnt during our 3/4 sport sessions. It was great to see all students giving their all in the running events on the track, as well as the jumping and throwing events in the field! Congratulations Hydro and to students who placed in top 10. We persevered through the rain and every student gave each event their best. Thank you to parent helpers and teachers for your hard work on the day.

We managed to wrap up the week with another SEDA cricket session. This time we had some fun practicing our cricket skills with inflatables. It was a great way to finish off the week!
