Level 1/2

Level 1

So much learning, growth and fun has been had over the last fortnight, it’s hard to know where to begin!

Let’s start with the uplifting experience we had celebrating the diversity within our wonderful school.  Harmony Day gave us the opportunity to reflect on our uniqueness and come together as a community to appreciate that ‘everyone smiles in the same language’.  The students loved spending time with their buddies and working creatively together on various pieces of work.  Each student also wrote something they were grateful for on a colourful paper leaf, for the beautiful display in the school foyer.

There was lots of bouncy fun to be had at SEDA Cricket Inflatables last week, and plenty of classic catches taken!

In Reading, we have continued to focus on our reading strategies, searching for new and interesting words in our readers.  Learning new words helps to build our vocabulary and this supports both reading and writing.  The students love finding and writing words in their ‘My Special Word Collection’ book.  We have been super word detectives! We have been busy learning about fiction and non-fiction texts and identifying rhyming words.  It has also been wonderful to welcome parent helpers back to school, supporting students with their reading – thank you!

We have been further developing our writing skills as the students become more familiar with the Level 1 Writing Process.  Over the last few weeks, there has been a particular focus on using time words and adjectives.  The SEDA Cricket Inflatables provided a wonderful launching pad for planning and writing recounts last week!

In Mathematics, we have been exploring the topics of Chance & Probability and Skip Counting.  There was plenty of lively discussion based on events that will possibly happen, certainly happen or are impossible! It was also fantastic using different materials and resources to make skip counting patterns all around the classroom!

For Inquiry, we have been investigating the topics of light and sound.  Focusing on listening, we participated in activities to identify sounds we could hear inside and outside the classroom.

We hope everyone enjoys the school holidays and comes back rested and ready for another exciting term in Level 1!

Level 2

What an amazing end to Term 1! We have enjoyed so many different activities. We had a fantastic Harmony Day where we were able to participate in a traditional smoking ceremony and learn a Bollywood dance. It was also a great way to share and celebrate the many different cultures in Level 2.

On Harmony day and throughout the week we have been able to get together with our Buddy grades and really get to know each other. It has been wonderful to see these friendships also extend out into the playground at recess and lunch.

Grade 2 also had so much fun on our SEDA Cricket Clinic Inflatable Day. We really got to practice all the skills we’ve learnt in a fun way.

We have also had a lot of fun in class learning lots of new and exciting information, like how to be safe online.
