Year 6 Spotlight
Year 6 Canberra Camp
Year 6 students enjoyed an action-packed five days in Canberra. The itinerary was diverse and included highlights such as the National Capital Exhibition, a drive around some of the embassies, the Electoral Education Centre, GEO Science, the Royal Australian Mint, going orienteering and rock climbing, the Australian Institute of Sport, visiting Government House, Questacon, the Australian War Memorial, ANZAC parade walk, Parliament House and seeing the views from Mt Ainslie lookout.
Here are some student reflections on their experiences.
My first favourite highlight was the embassy drive because, I saw many cool and unique houses resembling the different countries. They were so nice to look at and see, I was excited because I had never seen buildings like these in Australia. I did not have a favourite because they all looked so amazing.
~ Lila G, 6A

One word to describe my week at camp would be joyful. When I was at Parliament House I sat in the House of Representatives and Senate, I felt like I was a very important person (VIP). I was the Whip in the role play and loved it. Everyone had a great time.

One of the highlights of camp was the Government House, it was beautiful in many ways including the spectacular furniture and architecture. The guides gave wonderful and interesting facts and I had a great time looking around the grounds of the house. I think everyone really enjoyed this experience.

Camp was really awesome. The best activity was orienteering, it was also a good chance to get away from the stress of everyday life. One of the best school experiences I’ve had.

PACER Rebate
Year 6 students from FPS recently undertook an education tour of the national capital. Students participated in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributes funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
