Year Five and Year Six students are currently exploring Computer Aided Design. These students have begun creating three dimensional objects using Tinkercad. For their first project, students designed a word statue or personalised ornament. This allows students to develop their visuo-spatial reasoning ability and also gives them practical experience in applying mathematical concepts such as measurement, volume and scale.
Over the next month, students will create a series of projects, responding to various problem-solving prompts. They will then be able to select their favourite item for printing with the College’s 3D printer. Royaal and Mikayla from 5A have already designed and 3D-printed personalised gifts for family members! These items are featured in the banner photograph above.
Year Six students seeking extension in Robotics and Coding are now able to borrow school equipment and work through self-paced project modules. Students can learn about electronics, Arduino and coding using microcontrollers, breadboards and a range of components.
Equipment is organised into kits complete with project booklets. Students will need a computer with internet access to work through the activities at home. Sequences of modules lead to Beginner and Advanced Arduino certificates recognising student achievement.
