Year Two and Three's Term Two has started off with amazing energy and enthusiasm from all students, who have been eager to get back into the studio dancing once again! We have begun the term with our essential agreements and all that's required and expected, not only in the dance studio but also with what can help in every day life. Students were then taken through a full body warm up which helped identify all the major muscle groups, while creating body awareness, control and placement. In the process through selected stretches we also worked on pivoting through the feet to change directions and the function and meaning of it all. We covered rhythmic patterns and beats through a body percussion segment, which helped draw focus to timing, attention to detail, syncopation, and enhancing reflexes. In choreography we worked on a series of shapes translated through formations, transitions, levels and angles. Each shape had a different pattern to it which had a variations of arm combinations to compliment it. In this exercise we learnt about parallel angles, odd end even numbers within the counts, and the similarities with the steps on the even numbers within each different shape we worked on. We could also change the order of the shapes we danced to in order to give variation to the patterns which kept students engaged and constantly thinking about what shape came next. This can also be taken back to the classroom for extra fun and physical activities with their teachers. YEAR 7’s. The Year Seven students are off to a flying start tackling all that has been put before them with such a positive mindset and attitude. The first week began with setting out our outlook on what's ahead combined with the right tools and focus needed to achieve it. A full intense stretch and warm up starts off their classes taking them on a more in depth look at other ways to prepare and warm the body up before any physical activity. This helped students reflect on how to better look after and conditions their body's when playing sports to gain maximum benefit with minimum risk or injury. We worked on certain grooves and flowing movements to help release the body, learning how to let go and be a lot more free and loose while maintaining control and execution in the choreography. This covered range of movement, contrast and light and shade in the steps provided, but also trying to balance out the energy without overdoing it. We started working with chairs as props in week two teaching the students how to work with various elements other than their body's. This opened up their minds to making props an extension of their body's while maintaining the choreography, control, musicality, and the order of what's provided. This also taught the students about accountability, ownership and how to trust themselves more so, than following others or at any given point. They were awesome classes with amazing positive energy throughout with so much learnt in such a short time already!
Victorian State School Spectacular. VSSS dancers are off to a great start with our early morning Tuesday rehearsals! The dancers have come in eager and ready to smash out the big dance routines set out, and have also just been sent through a new routine online to be learnt and added to the repertoire!
