Leadership Report

We would like to offer everybody a warm welcome return to school after the Easter holidays. We hope you are rested and ready for a full and exciting term ahead. It has been a delight being on the gates each morning, greeting families and students who are full of smiles and are enthusiastic to begin their day. This has been extended into the classrooms where students have been engaged and ready to explore all the learning opportunities that Term Two has to offer.
As we have transitioned into a new term, many classes have started their next Unit of Inquiry. Students have been recording their wonderings and discussing the Central Idea of their unit. Students and teachers are looking forward to incorporating the core areas of the curriculum in their new inquiries. We encourage you to take some time at home to ask your child/children questions about the inquiry unit that they are studying and discuss ways in which they can continue their learning at home. Inquiry Units can be found on year level Schoolbox pages.
ANZAC Day
Last Tuesday, we enjoyed a very special commemoration assembly remembering the day Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on Gallipoli in 1915. Wreathes were laid and students listened to ‘The Ode’ and ‘The Last Post’ followed by a one-minute silence to pay our respects. Students shared war poems and listened to our inspiring guest speaker who was from The Royal Australian Airforce. The students then had the opportunity to discuss the importance of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and the significant roles service men and women of our nations had during the war and in our present day. After the assembly the wreathes were donated to the War Memorial Shine in Williamstown on behalf of the Saltwater community. It was an honour to remember those who had served or who are serving our country.
Parent Communication
It is very important that parents and carers read and action all communication from school. We have multiple platforms for communication with parents (Schoolbox, Xuno, texts, emails and newsletters). Correspondence sent from school often contain important information about your child’s upcoming events such as excursions and incursions, camps, photo days, etc. All notes regarding camps, excursions and incursions contain a cut-off date and unfortunately, we will not accept late notes and payments. It is very important that all communication is actioned to ensure that students can attend all the amazing opportunities that Saltwater has to offer. If you need any support with the communication platforms, please reach out to our IT department.
Aladdin
Our Aladdin rehearsals for our upcoming school production have been running smoothly. I have had a sneak peek at the rehearsals and I am very excited about the final production. Our cast members have been working hard perfecting their songs, dances and acting scenes. Watch this space for further information on our Term Three production, ‘Aladdin’. You will not want to miss out!
NAPLAN
The students have been working very hard preparing for NAPLAN. NAPLAN will be occurring between Tuesday 10 May and Friday 20 May. If you do not want your child/children to participate in NAPLAN, please email the school with your child/children’s name/s as soon as possible and the school will generate the necessary forms to withdraw them from the NAPLAN tests which families will need to sign and return to the school, prior to the commencement of NAPLAN next week.
Mother's Day
This week we have hosted a Mother’s Day stall where students had the opportunity to buy gifts to spoil their special family member. We hope you all enjoy receiving your gifts on Sunday. We wish each one of our families a wonderful weekend and we hope you enjoy spending time with the special mums, grandmas, aunties and friends on Mother’s Day.
