School Assembly
On Thursday the 13th of September, we had a whole school assembly that was focused around respect and appreciating what you have. It started off with Drue McEntee giving the Welcome to Country speech which lead to the National Anthem, sung by the choir.
Mrs Kelly gave a lovely heart-warming speech that made us realise how lucky we are to be at our school. Her story was about her first time as a Principal, teaching at a school in Wyndham. A small school, where unfortunately a six year old indigenous girl passed away as she wasn’t allowed to enter a hospital because “she was wearing no shoes” but the truth is they just didn’t want her there because she was indigenous. A woman named Janet walked with Mrs Kelly and several other aboriginal women to a sacred place. Janet was carrying the little girl in her arms and they walked around the sacred area singing a song releasing the little girl’s spirit back into the land. From this, we can really be thankful for the opportunities that we have. Mrs Kelly also read out our REAL values to remind us about being respectful and polite.
Following on from Mrs Kelly’s emotional speech, the school captains reminded us of important details to remember, such as being quiet in the corridors due to senior exams and they spoke about general behaviour.
There were many awards given out for Netball, Soccer, P.B.I.S, Athletics and for the records broken on that day, there were also awards given out to the people that read the most books. These awards were presented by Mr Griffin. Mrs Pritchett said a few words and as we were all leaving videos were played about being #McGuireProud and these were created by the Year 7 S.E.A.L class.
Overall it was a fantastic assembly that we all needed to give us a reminder about respect, all of our REAL values and why we should be proud of our school.
