All leaders from Years 6-12 attended training sessions on Tuesday afternoon covering topics such as Communication and Public Speaking, Style and Management, Leaders in Cyberlife, and Restorative Practices.
Coding Day
On Thursday, the students had a wonderful day of coding. The day started with an introduction to coding and the application of block coding on the code.org website. The students had the opportunity to work on 3 programs: Minecraft, Frozen or Star Wars, applying block codes to direct the online characters to move in various directions and perform various functions. The work the students did can be developed more, as the site provides online tutorials, which students could spend hours exploring and playing. (Mums and dads, I think you could enjoy it too!)
The next sessions were using various little toy robots that blend the physical and digital worlds — and teaches students programing. These sessions were about applying their newly acquired skills to solving problems and encouraged them to design creative solutions and to think outside the box. Great fun was had by all, and importantly, they have begun their learning journey into the world of coding.
Hats, Hats, Hats
Students will be learning about sun protection and the damage UV light can cause. I ask that all parents ensure their child has a hat with them everyday and that they apply sunscreen. Research is now showing that very young children are showing the signs of sun damage, mostly due to daily exposure. Assemblies will cover this topic; however, we need a united effort to protect our children.
Ribbons and Earrings
This year, I am looking closely at how students wear their uniform and I ask that parents support me to ensure students look polished at all times. Uniforms instil pride in students and this is something we really want to encourage in our students.
New rule: Girls are expected to wear a bottle green or navy ribbon in their hair every day if it is tied up.
Earrings: Girls are to wear plain studs or sleepers – no stones etc. Students found wearing the incorrect earrings after February will have them confiscated and sent home at the end of the week.
