Homework Club

Students have settled very well into the 2018 school year and already we are as busy as usual. Homework Club will be starting next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is an opportunity for students to complete any work they may have. A teacher will always be in attendance so students may ask for assistance if necessary. This program is based on voluntary attendance.

Year 7 Camp

The Year 7 students had a wonderful time on camp. The trip to Phillip Island allowed students to get to know their peers and teachers. Students took part in many different activities and enjoyed the sunshine. Comments from students about the camp:

  • I learnt I could conquer my fear of heights and I also liked the chicken schnitzel. Asvin
  • I really enjoyed spending time with my friends and getting to know them better.  Jade
  • I liked being away from school and just hanging out with friends and building stronger bonds. Zahn
  • Something I learnt  was to always try something new and never give up. Carla
  • I didn’t believe in myself enough, but to think I actually went to the top of the giant swing really made me proud that I had challenged myself. Jasmine
  • Something learnt was that everyone has different personalities and we must respect that. Steve

Dunhelen Swimming Carnival

A reminder that the Dunhelen Swimming carnival will be held on Tuesday 27 February. Girls will need to be in one piece competitive style swimsuits or will need to be wearing a rash vest. All students will be required to wear a rash vest or house t-shirt when they are not in the water. Please do provide your child with sunscreen. The swimming carnival is always a fun day; please feel free to visit if you have time.

Emailing Teachers

If emailing teachers, parents are asked to use their own email address and not their child’s school one. Students should only be emailing teachers using their school email address. Teachers will only respond to student emails if they are sent via the student’s school email address.

Online Safety and Security

Last week, Mr Patchell spoke to the Year 8 and Year 9 students about safety and security online. An email was then also sent out to parents. Please do discuss this topic with your child. There is good and bad in the internet and we have a responsibility to ensure that children are reminded to always seek the ‘good’.  Parents may also want to visitwww.familyzone.com/au/if they would like some help monitoring their child’s use of the internet and social media. Another site to gain information and parent and student resources is:

 www.aifs.gov.au/cfca/publications/online-safety.

The Year 7 students will also be spoken to about online safety soon.
