Middle School Play
Congratulations to the students who have successfully auditioned for this year’s Middle School production, 'The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe'. A cast of 30 students has been assembled by Ms Jacqueline Flood (Director), led by Angelique (White Witch), Simona, William, Molly, Marcus as the four siblings. The central figure of Aslan, The Lion, will be created as a puppet, operated and voiced by a group of students. The first rehearsal was held on Tuesday with the cast and crew excited by the challenges ahead. The play opens on Thursday 3 May.
VCE Theatre Studies Play
After some deliberation, the Year 12 class have selected, 'The Boat' by Chris Dickins as their major assessment task. The play, which opens on Thursday 17 May, is actually made up of four shorter plays all revolving around the central theme of a boat. It is an exciting venture, in a style unlike anything we have attempted before. The production actually needs multiple boats and a combi-van, on stage. If you have an old boat or van in your backyard that you would be willing to loan to us for a couple of weeks in May, I would be thrilled to hear from you.
College Musical
There was much excitement this week as the cast list for Disney’s High School Musical was released. More than 50 students will be involved in bringing this teen favourite to the stage in August. Leading them will be Holly (Gabriella), Roberto-Jose (Troy), Nicholas (Ryan), Kaylee (Sharpay) and Kurtis (Chad). The first full read-through will take place this coming Tuesday with a vigorous rehearsal period to follow. Students and staff will also be giving up three days of their holidays for an intensive musical camp. Tickets go on sale in June.
We Need Your Help
The Performing Arts Department relies greatly on the support of the Parents and Friends Association, but they in turn need support of the parents of those students involved in the many events throughout the year. I encourage you to get in touch with the P&F and offer your assistance for canteen and BBQ duties during the many rehearsals and concerts we run throughout the year; in particular, a number of external hirers of the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre, which in turn, provide funds for projects and scholarships offered to the students.
Performing Arts Captain's Concert
This year’s Performing Arts Captain's Concert will raise funds for Headspace Craigieburn. Teenage Mental Health issues have been given greater prevalence in the media, and this organisation is instrumental in supporting students from Aitken and the surrounding areas. A first meeting was held this week for the captains, Caitlin and Caitlyn to begin putting together this year’s show. Entry to the concert, which will be held on Tuesday 27 March, is by donation.
