China Trip

VICTORIAN YOUNG LEADERS TO CHINA PROGRAM
On Wednesday 12th October, ten of our Year 9 students and a member of staff, Michael Harvey, headed to China as part of the Victorian Young Leaders to China Program. These students joined with others from schools around Victoria for a six week adventure that involves, among other things, visiting the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Great Wall of China.
Students will attend an intensive university program at Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing which involves learning Chinese language, some of the history of ancient and modern China, Chinese thoughts on religion and philosophy, as well as geographical physical, human and economic features of the country. Along with other Young Leaders, they will take part in leadership projects and visit the Summer Palace, National Museum and the 798 Art District.
As part of their in school program, alongside developing their Chinese language skills they will take lessons in cultural activities such as Chinese calligraphy, tai chi, knotting, bamboo dancing, drumming, Chinese cooking and Chinese folk music.
Students are keeping a blog of their journey and are sending photos regularly to update their family and friends on how they are going. Currently a little over a week into their journey, their days have been full and they’ve been having a wonderful time.
Students who headed off to the Victorian Young Leaders to China Program are: Jack Law, Matthew Carolan, Ricki Morton, Cindy Ye, Jacqui Rogers, Connor Tobschall, Kelsey Haigh, Richard Tan, Christian Lee and Charlotte Eggelton-Brough. Prior to leaving, students were excited and nervous about leaving, stating that their goals in heading off on this trip ranged from improving their Chinese language skills, to developing their independence and confidence. Many were interested in better understanding Chinese culture and wanted to be able to challenge themselves to grow and step outside of their comfort zone.
We look forward to keeping updated with their travels!
