YEAR 9 EXPERIENCE CHALLENGE CAMPS

The Year 9 Experience Challenge Camps are fast approaching!  From Monday 7th November to Friday 11th November, students will depart Wantirna College and head out around Victoria to challenge themselves in a range of activities.  Some will head to the Murray River to canoe and kayak, others will develop their equestrian skills by leading a horse for the week, and some will white water raft down the Snowy River.  Other students have chosen to tackle Mt Arapiles to experience rock climbing and abseiling, some will a bike ride around different parts of the state, and others have opted to head to Karoonda Base Camp to experience a little bit of all of the above.

These students have just attended an Information Evening on Thursday 20th November to find out additional details about their camps, and are instructed to ensure that they have returned all forms and are well aware of the list of items they need to pack with them to ensure that, no matter the weather, they are comfortable, warm and safe.  If students are unsure of anything related to what they might need to bring, they must make sure that they speak to their camp leader as soon as possible to get this sorted out.

For students who have opted to not attend a camp, a school based program will run during the week at the College, and it is the expectation of the school that students attend the full week.  Not attending camp does not mean that students should stay home.  If there is a specific reason why a student might be away that week such as illness, it is important to ring the school’s absence hotline and let us know the reason for absence, the same as for a normal school day.

YEAR 7 KINDNESS PROJECT

An update on the Year 7 Kindness Project which is in full swing!  Students are due to present their projects to their classmates on Wednesday 16th November.  So many students are trying to get the best out of themselves and give back to their community in a variety of ways.  Some of these include collecting tins of canned food for St Vincent’s, getting old blankets and towels to give to the Lost Dog’s Home, and getting baby supplies donated to give to newborns at the Angliss Hospital.

Many students are going all out to show kindness to others, and we can’t wait to see what they present to us once they’re all finished.  Good luck!
