Year Advisers Reports

Year 7

Welcome to all our Year 7 Students and families to Henry Kendall High School, and what an exciting time to be starting at our school on the 50th Year Anniversary! All of Year 7 have settled in extremely well. I understand how scary it is starting high school and all the changes from primary school, however, you have taken all new changes into your stride. Well Done!

Many students have been asking about clubs that are available, with some already joining the D&D Club (Dungeons & Dragons Club), make sure you listen to all the notices in the morning to hear on all the activities that are happening around the school.

During first term there will be a number of important dates, please keep an eye out for notes regarding these:

  • Whole School Swimming Carnival (compulsory): Monday 17 February
  • Combined School Disco with Gosford High school: Tuesday 18 February
  • Year 7 Vaccination (Provided free by NSW Health): Wednesday 26 March
  • Year 7 Camp: Monday 6 April – Wednesday 8 April

To all keep up to date with any information and notices please like the HKHS Facebook page, or look at the Webpage. Year 7 also have a google classroom where they are welcome to ask questions, as well as get to know each other. If parents need to contact me, please feel free to email me (attn. Karen Hogan) on the school email henrykenda-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au

I am looking forward to getting to know all our Year 7 students, and joining them in their journey of high school.

Year 9

Welcome back to a new school year! This new year brings with it a few changes for year 9 students, including a new Year Adviser, classes and a whole new stage of learning.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I introduce myself as the new Year 9 Adviser. I am delighted to be taking on this new role at Henry Kendall High School and cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us and the year 9 students. I am thoroughly looking forward to supporting the Year 9 students on their schooling journey. Myself and the Year 9 students would like to thank Mr Matthew Reece for his continued support of this amazing year group. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me via my school email or by phoning the school.

This year will be full of new and exciting experiences as Year 9 students enter into the beginning of Stage 5. It has been very good to see that most students are settling well into their new electives and classes and I have heard may positive comments that students are thoroughly enjoying their chosen elective.

Assessment tasks will start to come in toward the end of this term, so please ensure the students are checking their assessment booklet for all the due dates.

Most students are looking fabulous this year in full school uniform, but just a gentle reminder for uniform, please ensure all students are coming to school in full school uniform. If they are unable to do this, then the student should have a note from home explaining why.

I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Year 11

Welcome back Year 11.  It was fantastic to see all of the students nicely turned out in their senior uniforms. The senior jackets have already arrived and they look great. Year 11 need to remember as senior students it is now up to them to be leaders in the school, particularly by wearing correct school uniform.

The students have quickly settled in and are enjoying participating in courses they have chosen. Year 11 received their assessment documents this week. It is very important for students to be aware of all assessment requirements and plan out their course assessments to ensure they can remain organised. Whilst every effort is made to space out tasks, inevitably there will be times where the load will be very heavy. Planning and being organised will help students to cope with the demands of senior study. Balance is also very important – students should include physical activity and socialising in their schedules. Part time work should be limited to 10-12 hours a week. There is assistance available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the library with Mr Rogers and I would encourage all of the students to avail themselves of this great resource.

Any issues or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
