Girls' Hockey
College Thundersticks went down fighting on Sunday defeated by Coleraine 3-2. Coleraine took the upper hand early in the first half and went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead. Charlotte Boyd Walsh and Nina Pern battled hard on the half line and they were well supported by the ever reliable Mrs Nichols. Coleraine extended their lead in the second half until College hit back with a short corner conversion. A third goal to Coleraine late in the game put the game beyond doubt. College scored again just before the final whistle but it was too little too late. The girls gave their all but it just wasn’t their day. Credit to Coleraine who played a wonderful game of hockey.
Better Players: Claudia Roberts, Lucy Roberts, Alyssa Hocking and Phoebe Sweeney
College Scorchers have earned their place in the Grand Final with a strong 4-0 victory over Monivae. Gracie Austin, Emily Crawford and Phoebe Russell all hit the board for College. The girls were dominant all over the ground and if they can replicate this form on Saturday they will give top of the table Demons a real fight. James Russell has this team working very well and their ability to switch the play created numerous scoring opportunities. Better players – Gracie Austin, Amy Boland, Phoebe Russell and Chantelle Butcher.
Good luck to both the A Grade Strikers and the B Grade Scorchers with their Grand Finals this weekend. I know they would love lots of College support.

Boys' Hockey
With the Open Men’s team and College Blue (Div 2) already in Grand Finals this weekend, it was great to see College Gold (Div 2) also qualify for “the big dance.”
Gold defeated Monivae 8-2 last weekend to earn a rematch with Blue. Nick Gunn stole the limelight with four goals but he was well supported by some excellent team play and quality hockey. Those who particularly caught my eye included Jack Austin, Isaac Hocking and Tobe Adamson, who were lively around mid-field. In addition, Darcy Wall, Harry Mould and Clancy Munro were alert in defence.
We can expect a fine game on Saturday morning between our two sides. “Come on College” would be a safe cry!
All our teams in action this weekend – on Friday night or on Saturday – would appreciate strong and loud sideline support.
Hockey Dinner
Bookings are now closed for this function as catering numbers needed to be finalised early in the week.
We commence in the Tim Murray room at 7.00pm and the evening will conclude around 10.00pm. It should be a good night!
Australian Schools Hockey Championships
After quite a delay, we received confirmation this week that the Australian Schools’ Hockey Championships to be held next July in Canberra will commence on the later date of 14 July. This is unfortunate as it means the event is not in the school holidays as originally advertised and this will limit our options significantly. Any further responses to the letter sent out to hockey families would be welcomed by the end of term, particularly
now that this information is available.

Clay Target Shooting
Recent weeks has seen the Clay Target Shooters continue to practise in preparation for upcoming competitions in October at Minyip and Warrnambool (Middle Years students).
Our House Shooting was conducted last week and this saw Young House take the win from Berry House in a shoot off. Top shooters for Young were Shaun Roache and Fraser Diprose. Well done to the two lone Berry shooters, Dinny Mills and George Austin, who were consistent enough to place second based on their average score for the three rounds. Laidlaw placed 3rd, narrowly missing the shoot off, and Learmonth rounded out the competition in 4th position. Well done to all shooters who represented their House on the night.
Congratulations also go to Hamish Cameron, who represented The College at the State Championships in Echuca on Monday 3rd September after his win at the zone competition at Noorat in recent weeks. Although Hamish didn’t place on the day in Echuca, it is an outstanding achievement to gain entry into the State Championships, with only 12 shooters from the South West Zone doing so. Well done Hamish.
