Hats On

Students are in school when daily ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels are at their peak, meaning schools are uniquely placed to educate about sun protection behaviour, minimise UVR exposure and ultimately reduce a student’s lifetime risk of skin cancer.  The Junior School is a registered ‘SunSmart School’.  From Monday September 17th, all students are required to be wearing College hats during recess and lunch breaks, as well as to and from school.  A ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy will be enforced by teachers on playground duty.

Class Assemblies

Every Junior School class presents one Wednesday Assembly per year.  Next Wednesday, September 19th, our Prep class will present ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ at 1.40 pm.  They have been busily rehearsing and we look forward to their presentation.   Already in 2018, our Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4 classes have entertained us with a collection of plays and story adaptations.  Assemblies are an avenue for performance, creative expression and public speaking opportunities.  They are also an opportunity for students to display their musical talents and for teachers to present well-deserved student awards.  Formal Assemblies have been a hallmark of the Junior School for many years.  They are an important part of our week and, we invite parents and grandparents to share these occasions with us.

Footy Colours Day and Magice of Myrniong

On Thursday September 20th, the Junior School will host ‘Magic of Myrniong’ and ‘Footy Colours Day’ . We will open our doors to visiting students and provide an opportunity for them to share in a typical day at the Junior School.  In 2017, 19 visiting students enjoyed a fabulous day at Myrniong.  We will also host ‘Footy Colours Day’.  All Junior School and visiting students are invited to wear their favourite footy colours and bring a donation to support the ‘Fight Cancer Foundation’ - an important cause.  We will share in a hot dog lunch and footy games will be organised by our Year Five leaders.  Thanks to our fabulous maintenance team of Nick Dopheide, Craig Kennedy and Shane Bonnett, the grounds are looking a real treat.  Spring colours dominate the playground and we look forward to sharing our wonderful facilities with many visitors.

Hockey Finals - College Drop Bears 1 - College Bandicoots 0

‘Sports do not build character, they reveal it.’  Last Saturday, College Bandicoots played College Drop Bears in an enthralling Division 4 Qualifying Final.  The match displayed all the qualities that epitomise College sport - tenacity, resilience, creativity, gratitude, respect - the list goes on.  A single goal separated the teams at full time. Every player gave their all and left nothing on the field.  The game was end to end, with both goalkeepers - Gabe Marshall and Emily Ash - starring with a series of spectacular saves.  Isaac Hocking’s terrific second half goal was the difference.  Best for Bandicoots were Will Merrin, Tobe Adamson and Sophie Merrin whilst Isaac Hocking, Charlotte Rowe and Lily Cush played strongly for Drop Bears.
