Magis report

Congratulations to Thomas Beach (Year 8) and Caleb Faulkner Hill (Year 9) who have been selected as delegates for the state final of the 2022 United Nations Voice Competition. Voice is a unique public speaking competition for students in Years 7 to 10. It invites students to solve issues that affect their community, nation, and the world.

In the regional round, Year 9 student Caleb Faulkner Hill, considered how the government could encourage a fair transition to renewable energy for Australian industries. Whilst Year 8 student, Thomas Beach, discussed what could be done globally to increase the resilience of healthcare systems. We congratulate these students on an outstanding achievement and wish them all the best in the state final.

The grand final of our College Chess Tournament has been played over two lunch times – with neither grand finalist able to break their opponent’s game (they are so evenly matched). We have officially called it a draw!

Congratulations to our joint College chess grandmasters for 2022, James Mitchell (Year 11 Koolyangarra) and Robbie Douglass (Year 11 Ward). James and Robbie will be awarded their medals at the first House Assembly for 2023. Thank you to all students who took part in this year’s Tournament. It was wonderful to see so many students coming to support James and Robbie. Special thanks to Mr Connellan for his supervision of the tournament.
