VISION 2022 VERMONT SECONDARY COLLEGE YEAR 7 – 12 VISUAL ART & TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION

Thank you to the parents who attended the ‘Vision 2022’ Art Exhibition last week. It was deliberately kept very low key this year in terms of school community attendance as our Year 12 students were in the midst of exams and we were wanting to minimize their exposure to Covid.   We are hopeful that next year  we will be able to get back to a larger gathering

‘Vision’ is a celebration and recognition of the achievements of students in Art, Visual Communication Design and Materials & Technology (including wood, metal, plastics & textiles). The student work on display was of an extremely high standard and showed a broad range of artistic ability.

It is my pleasure to announce the winner of the ‘Sarah Bussu Certificate of Excellence’ for 2022 to Kelvin Li of Year 12.

Sarah was a passionate art teacher at Vermont Secondary College over many years and was responsible for the design and development of our Vermont Secondary College fifty year mural situated at the front of the school. This award is in honour of her memory.

Kelvin receives the Sarah Bussu award certificate and also $150.00 in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements - congratulations Kelvin.

I would like to thank the members of the college community who attended and thank the students who had their work on display. Special thanks to Heather Aeschlimann, the Visual Art and Materials Technology Leader as well as all of the Arts, Technology staff involved in setting up such a fantastic exhibition. Well done to everyone involved!

YEAR 7 SOFTBALL TEAM - STATE CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to our latest state champions, our Year 7 girls softball team who won the state finals at Waverley Softball Association yesterday. It has been a very successful year in sport for Vermont Secondary College and this team have contributed another flag to our Sports Award wall for 2022. Full details in the Sports section in this newsletter.

2022 PARENT OPINION SURVEY RESULTS

Thank you to all of the Vermont families that participated in the annual DET (Department of Education and Training) ‘Parent Opinion Survey’ for 2022.   The survey allowed us to gain both positive and constructive feedback. The survey was newly formatted in 2017 and is now released electronically.   With this being the sixth year of the current format we are now able to show some comparative data for the years 2017 to 2022.

Previously the Department randomly selected the respondents, however for the past few years all families have received an invitation to participate with 231 parent survey responses being completed for this year. The survey delves into 19 key areas under 6 domains with all questions and survey parameters set by the Department of Education and Training (DET).

2022 - All families receive an invitation - Total number of parent responses: 231

2021 - All families receive an invitation - Total number of parent responses: 291

2020 - All families receive an invitation - Total number of parent responses: 414

2019 - 438 recommended, DET target number 231, number of respondents 231 = 100%

2018 - 445 recommended, DET target number 222, number of respondents 170 = 76.6%

2017 - 445 recommended, DET target number 222, number of respondents 170 = 76.6%

The positive percentages shown are determined by both ‘agree’ and ‘strongly agree’ responses being combined. Whilst  there are a few areas that need continued work and assessment, overall the responses are extremely positive and we thank the school community for their feedback and continued support of the college.

Of particular note is the ‘General Satisfaction’ result of 88%, ‘School Pride and Confidence’ at 87%, ‘High Expectations for Success’ at 85% and the ‘School Connectedness’ result at 91%, our highest result yet!

A more detailed examination of the data will take place in a range of forums including College Council, the Leadership Team, as well as with staff and the student leadership group.

Below is a snapshot of the results over the last 6 years with the best result in bold.
