Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Guardians, and friends of Nazareth

The VCE exams are well underway and for many of our students it's an opportunity to finalise their studies.  I congratulate each of them for the manner in which they have prepared and supported each other through this stressful period.  I also acknowledge our VCAL and non scored students for engaging in post education activities.  For many, their transition into the workforce has been immediate; no break, straight into a job.

We look forward to celebrating with our Year 12 cohort and their families at the Valedictory Mass and Dinner on Thursday 17 November.

Currently, our Year 9 students are sitting exams.  This is an ideal experience for the students to develop exam techniques and learn study strategies which will assist them in their coming years.  Next week their learning will take on a new form as they attend City Experience.  This will enable the students to develop the independent skills that we may take for granted.  The students will need to make their own way into Melbourne, plan their travel and work on their inquiry based project.  This will then form the basis of their work back at school.

Our Year 8s will be attending camp at Rawson next week.  This is another opportunity for our students to experience outdoor activities in and around the Mt Baw-Baw area.

As one can see, this year the learning experiences beyond the classroom are flourishing and our students are being given many chances to reconnect after the interruptions caused by remote learning.

It is pleasing to report that the students are fully immersed in their classes in the new Science rooms and are thoroughly enjoying their new environment.  We are now preparing the temporary Food Tech and Media classrooms in order to complete the final stage of our Master Plan.  We will soon engage a builder for this project and hope that work will begin before the end of the school year.

In concluding, we have recently reminded all students and staff about our basic expectations regarding respect and behaviour.  It has been felt that a students were lacking in some areas.

We have clearly articulated:

  • Respect for staff/adults.
  • Respect for property.
  • Respect for allowing others to learn.
  • Support and care for each other.
  • Ownership of one's own behaviour.
  • No vaping.
  • No intimidating others in large numbers.
  • Uniform expectations

I bring this to your attention to ask for your ongoing support in ensuring our students continue to strive to improve in all facets of life.  We thank you for your help.

God Bless.

Mr Sam Cosentino
