Celebrating a student achievement

Every year at our school, a number of students choose to participate in the ICAS Competitions. ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise academic excellence and students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

Students with the top score in each year level and subject are awarded an ICAS winners’ medal and certificate.

We are very proud to share that Evan Shu (3A) was a 2022 Medal Winner! We would like to congratulate him on this achievement!

Prep and Year 6 Working Bee

Thank you to the wonderful families who helped out at our Working Bee on Sunday. We had a great morning until the rain came down late morning, and our school is looking wonderful thanks to everyone's hard work! All of your efforts are greatly appreciated by all of our staff and students who get to enjoy the beautiful grounds every day.

We've joined social media!

With School Council approval, Valkstone Primary School has its own Official Facebook page! In the past, due to the way Facebook works, a few 'groups' that were related to Valkstone were created, but none were managed by the school. 

This new account has been set up so that the school maintains control, manages what is posted, and can ensure accurate information is presented. It also means that we can manage the digital safety of our students on this page, by closely controlling what is posted on the page as well as monitoring all commenting closely.

We are currently developing more specific policies and procedures around Social Media, but please be reassured that no identifiable children will appear on the page without the specific consent of their guardian/s. 

We plan on using the Facebook page as an additional means of communication. It will not replace our current communication methods. Instead it will enhance them and allow us to share our celebrations with the wider community.

Students not returning in 2023 - Prep to Y5

If you know that your child/ren will not be returning to Valkstone in 2023, please e-mail the school office at valkstone.ps@education.vic.gov.au to notify us as soon as possible. Please include details of their last day with us here at Valkstone, the name of their new school, and a forwarding address if applicable. 

Please note that if your child is currently in Year 6, this does NOT apply to you as we already have all their transition information.

Acknowledgement of Country

On behalf of the teachers and staff at Valkstone Primary School, I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land that we gather on to learn, the people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation. I would like to express my respect for and continuing commitment to the laws of Bunjil – respecting ourselves, others and the land. I would also like to pay my respects to all elders past and present.

Here at Valkstone, we gather in this special place as curious learners, to continue our learning journey together. I would like to express my appreciation to all of the Valkstone Community for being curious learners and for supporting each other to heal Country.
