Around the Classrooms

Foundation

This week in Foundation students have been learning even more about questions and how we can use them in our writing. We looked at a picture of someone eating some watermelon and thought of some questions. Some questions that students created were: What are you eating? Where did you get the watermelon? Is it juicy?

It has been amazing to see students build on their writing skills in class!

In numeracy students have continued to build on their counting strategies. This week is all about doubles and subitising which is the ability to instantly recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them.

Well done Foundation students on your hard work at school this fortnight!

Congratulations to our award winners from week 5!

Insect Hotel Resources Needed

Students will begin building their Bug Hotel projects in Design and Technology this week. In order to fill these Bug Hotels with natural resources from our environment, we are looking for some donations from backyards or other areas! We are looking for sticks, twigs, pine cones, bamboo, gum nuts, banksia cones, large pieces of bark etc. Anything you think our local insect populations would appreciate! Please bring any natural resource donations to school in a bag so that we can include these in our projects!

Visual Art

The last 2 weeks in Visual Art have been fun and productive. The Junior Students have started their woven letters. They have used patterns and a variety of colours to paint a cardboard cut out of the first letter of their name. These letters will then be decorated with wool and pom poms, and can be displayed at home on the fridge, or on their bedroom door or window. Many of the students were able to use the remainder of the lesson to create a painting of their choice. The Senior Students have now finished arranging their beans and have completed the mosaic by carefully painting their design. All Senior Students have now completed their bean mosaics and they look fantastic. A big thanks to Wes, Lily, Lucy, Bridget and Eli for their help in Visual Art it was a real treat for the Foundation Students.

Year 4, 5 and 6

WOW! We can hardly believe we are already half way through Term 4!

In Content Knowledge, the students have continued reading and analysing the structure, arguments and persuasive devices used in persuasive essays. Students are currently writing a persuasive piece on a topic of their choice, with the topics ranging from ‘Why RB Sellars is better than Ringers Western’ to ‘Why homework should be banned’. It is great to see students using a range of persuasive devices such as exclamatory sentences, emotive language, exaggeration, repetition, alliteration, rhetorical questions, and inclusive language.  We can’t wait to read the finished versions!

In Math, students have just wrapped up their unit on time. Students learned about 12 and 24 hour time, calculating elapsed time and using timetables. This week students will commence learning about chance and probability, as well as revising reading, writing and representing decimals.

We still have many exciting things coming up for our students as our Year 6 Graduation preparations will soon begin, as well as our Year 5s designing t-shirts for next year and preparing for student leadership opportunities! Stay tuned!
