Omusubi Kororin - The Rolling Rice Ball

A famous Japanese Folktale

Last week students in grades Prep, 1 & 2 read the Japanese story of “The Rolling Rice Ball”. Rice Balls – known as omusubi or onigiri – are a very popular snack and lunchbox item in Japan. Cooked rice is shaped into a triangle or ball, sometimes with a filling added, and wrapped or decorated using nori (seaweed) paper.

Students had the challenge to either make their own rice ball or draw a picture of the story.

Thank you to the grade 1 & 2 students who submitted their work – check out some of their fantastic work!

Learning a language can be a fun, rewarding and at times challenging endeavour. While there are some good translation tools available to help, there are also times that they don’t get it quite right…
